Toastmaster Role:
Tips & Tricks
Should Do:
- You are in charge in
filling out the Agenda correctly.
- You are in charge of
making copies of the Agenda & bringing to the meeting.
- Be very sparing on the
emails that you send out (No one likes to get
a bunch of emails in one day about Toastmasters.)
- We should take the
opportunity to minimize double-up's on a role, such as Timer/Ballot
Counter – if possible, we should have 2
separate people doing these roles.
- If a Timer, Ballot Counter, or Grammarian, becomes available
prior to a meeting – contact a new member that has no role assigned; if there are no new members – contact a member that does not have a role to perform at the meeting (we want to have as many people as possible
participating in the meeting process -- the more the members are involved
in our meetings, the less they will tend to get bored and potentially walk
away from MOF).
- If a Table Topic Master role becomes available – start
with a member that has a little bit more experience.
- Make sure you are
pronouncing the name of everyone that you’re introducing –
with their correct 1st & last name.
- The Toastmaster
will start the meeting on time, if the President is running late. **Also
make sure you have the Club’s Mission Statement available, just in case.
- The
Toastmasters NEEDs to start every APPLAUSE & GREET the SPEAKER at the Lectern.
- The Toastmaster
can decide if Table Topics or giving the Grammarian Report can be excused,
so we meet the 12:55 deadline.
- If there are Guests, then we should have –Introductions-
but keep them short.
Try to Avoid:
- Starting the Meeting Late
- Pronouncing people’s names
incorrectly.
- Leaving the Lectern w/o 1st
turning over the position to the next speaker – shaking their hand &
say Thank you Mr. / Madam
Toastmaster, or Mr. /Madam Table Topic Master, or Mr. / Madam Evaluator,
or Mr. / Madam General Evaluator.
Suggestions on
Who to Email for What Purpose:
If the
function is a speaking slot, the sooner folks know the better. If
possible, an email to the entire group asking for someone to step into the
speaking slot would be in good form.
For other
functions, an email to the Toastmaster and Scott Stevenson should do the trick.
Toastmaster: After that, email the member that is
affected or needs to know instead of the entire club.
