Sergeant At Arms – John Byers

Proposed Agenda:

Action: President Armillas  brought up subject of:

1)    membership recruiting strategies.

a)    Need 20 members at time of accounting to qualify for award.  Possibility of 50% loss in new year.  Summer is usually a slow time, attendance should increase in the Fall.  Many businesses are giving more responsibility with fewer resources.

b)    How does Toastmasters get their information in the ‘front door’ of businesses, to the HR person responsible for training decision making?

c) Open House:to be held in late September, early October.  Contest time, be careful not to scare potential new members with contests.  These contests are great learning opportunities for members, but can be intimidating to a guest.

2)    Activation current members by friendly, inviting phone calls or emails before meetings.

3)    Cathey will contact John Byers, sergeant at arms, about his intent and attendance.

4)    Need a full time webmaster (Ashutosh Sanzgiri).

5)    Need a VP Membership – Dan Hahn will invite Katie Martin to take on this role.

Previous Action: Subject of  new membership and retention of current members.

1)    Drop off brochures at companies in Wilsonville. (Cathey will be putting up fliers.)

2)    Find more ways to promote benefits of Toastmasters to community. (Cathey will contact Toastmasters International)

3)    Jai wants to investigate education credits for learning programs.

4)    Worry of member burnout.

5)    Club needs a healthy balance of new and seasoned membership.

6)    Try to meet with heads of HR in local companies.

Follow up:

Planning is good, we also need accountability of assignments.
